Seasoning Elm

Have no downed trees left, so I had to cut down a few Elm trees for wood 2 winters from now. I cut, split and stacked about 4 cords so far. I have about 2 more to cut and split. I've put them in an open pole barn with all sides open. It doesn't get much sun, but it will get wind, and is covered from rain and snow. Question is, will it be ready 2 winters from now?

I would say yes in two years, but don't be afraid to hit it with the moisture meter as you go to check.

Two years should do the trick. Remember that air circulation is much better than sunshine for drying wood.

If you have any of those elm dead with the bark off, the top half or third would be good to burn right now!
