Hi - I recently took home a shop vac SVX2 12 Gal 5.5 HP someone had put curbside. The motor was working but grinding. I took it apart and found the fan end bearing blown. I ordered a 10pac of 608 RS bearing and a puller. I replaced both bearings. I am not sure how well the fix will turn out as the armature had been grinding on the stator. I will update later.

Got it back together. I now have a large shop vac for the garage. Just need to have a filter for it. Have 8 spare bearings left and now own a puller which I never had before.

Don’t use it for water if you have to lift it to empty! That’ll be heavy when full!

I believe the person that put it curbside was a plumber, as there were no filters, and all the screws totally rusted. You would think that if you used it for waster and sand, then after you would dry it out after. Some have a bottom drain. I'd have to check this one. Also, if you bring the water level up too high, there is more chance of it getting to close to the fan. The fan is aluminum, but right above it is the motor.

Nice i was going to do similar with my leaf blower but could not find the parts, and then my buddy gave me his blower as he got a battery one.

How much was that pack of bearings?

I read these ratings are based on the initial current spike when turning it on.
Rather deceptive.

They are rated by the same people that rate log splitters...

PGN - 608-2RS Sealed Ball Bearing - 8x22x7 - Lubricated - Chrome Steel (10 PCS) $11.75 CAD

You can probably get any bearing size you need. 6 stands for the series, and 08 the diameter of the inner hub.

Has anybody figured out how they get 5.5hp out of a 15 amp outlet?
It does say peak HP somewhere. 15A x 120V = 1800W / 746 = 2.4HP so the inrush must be pretty big which it would be on a stalled motor.
It is amazing that these little motors work for so long. The brushes are huge as well as the comm. I can't imagine the RPM. However, they have an overload module in them that if it melts, can't be fixed in a safe way.
