I am looking to purchase a new ZC woodburning fireplace. I have looked at the Napoleon NZ6000 as well as the Quadrafire 7100. This stove needs to have the capability to heat 2500 sq. ft. I would also like to incorporate the blower option. Please feel free to jot down your input, opinions, and/or firsthand experiences. Also, how do each of these fireplaces perform while burning small amounts of wood / recreational burning? Thank you in advance for your responses.

The Quad 7100FP can heat 2500sqft no problem in a good situation. It always does depend on the house layout, stove placement, and house insulation.
A lot of the houses we put the 7100 or Northstar (very similar) in are probably not using it for a heat source, but recreational burning. Never really had any legitimate complaints, only ones from people burning bad wood or cutting the air down too much (operator error). We burn small fires in our showroom all the time also, and never have any problems with it.

I am not too familiar with the Quadrafire, but the NZ6000 won't do what you want. I consider it mid efficient at best. Looks fantastic but the NZ26WI would work much better in the Napoleon line.

What you want is a wood stove (EPA certified clean burning, efficient heat source) that looks like a fireplace. Take a look at the Lennox Hearth Products Brentwood or Villa Vista.
The Brentwood has a smallish firebox and is non-catalytic so would be better suited to shorter duration fires.
The Villa Vista is a cat with a 3 cubic foot firebox and therefore would be good for all-day/night burns.

Being a native TEXAN, and not knowing much about REALLY heating with wood, I have spent the last several months researching the best possible fireplace heat source for my new home (under construction). With information furnished by the elite members of this forum (who actually heat with wood) and the "anal retentive" nature of a retired facilities/construction engineer......I settled on the Quadrafire 7100 (which was just installed this week). As a "non-cat" fireplace, it seemed to meet all of my needs to add supplemental heat to a tightly-built, energy efficient, 3000 sq. ft. home. I'm sure that the Xtroidaire, NorthStar, and many others, are wonderfully capable of handling the task, but the Quadrafire just seemed to meet my needs. Feel free to PM me, if I can help.
The Quad should heat 2500 sqft no problem. We run ours 24/7 and it heats our 2700 sqft center hall colonial. We only use our forced hot air furnace as supplemental and if the temps are under 20 we will kick on the furnace in the early morning to heat the far bedrooms upstairs.
I burn small fires in the fall and spring to take the chill off so you shouldn't have any issues with ambiance fires. Quad offers and optional screen if you want to hear and smell the fire.
