Should I clean firebox? Does this look okay?

I’m currently putting in new refectory panels/firebricks. I pulled the old ones out. I’m wondering if I should clean the firebox/metal before putting the new ones back on? Also I did make sure nothing was rusted through and such and seems to be okay. Is there anything else I should be looking for? Thanks.

Yeah, I'm not sure what cleaning would achieve. It'll only dirty up again.

Sounds good. I’m just replacing the refractory panels insides the fireplace because they wore out.
