Why is it every where I go now to purchase shrimp the package says "Product or Taiwan" or some other asian country :( Do we not have shrimp here in the states any longer??

There still is a domestic gulf shrimp industry but the New England northern Shrimp season is closed for a couple of years. There is a lot of press on Thai and other third world farmed shrimp production, the workers are treated like slaves, they use pesticides and chemicals long ago banned in the US and the general water quality is very poor. They are far cheaper than US production so that's why you always see it on sale.

There might be an issue with supply too? I know our local crab was being shipped to Hong Kong because it was selling there for $60/lb this summer. No one here could afford that!

Lobster is still fairly cheap in Maine. Beats the heck out of shrimp.
