$2.09 CAD per liter for regular gas this AM at my most local fuel stations. Highest I've ever seen. Glad I'm still riding the dual sport motorcycle, hopefully get another month out of the 2 wheel fuel savings. I'd drive an electric truck in a heartbeat if I could justify the price...

I think the question here is what is the definition of temporary? Today's fuel prices are driven by refining capacity (or lack thereof). How quickly can refineries be repaired and brought back online, and will there ever be new capacity built?

I don't see this being a quick turnaround, I think we're stuck with high fuel prices for a while. The US may impose export restrictions, which helps the domestic market, but pushes the cost onto others.

The export ban won’t move it much. Refineries will just take that opportunity to make repairs. Then sell it to global market when the ban lifts.

Idk about that, I looked on gas buddy just now and I picked the most expensive prices and here’s a screenshot of them.

Gas Buddy goes by user reports which are usually the least expensive in the area, not the highest. Finding the best and cheapest price is the point of Gas Buddy.

That said, the picture was likely one of the highest yesterday. Some gas stations have more overhead or jack up prices due to the location. Same thing with Seattle gas prices. There can be a big difference for the same gas in different parts of town.

Not likely, refinery outages are generally planned a year or more in advance, the logistics behind them are immense. Not something that's thrown together in days or weeks.

Don’t forget the emergency oil stockpiles that have been depleted. Estimates have it taking 18-24 months after the Middle East and Russia/Ukraine settle down to replenish stockpiles.

Yes, I use Gas buddy regularly, I’m aware of how it works. You can pick a city and see what the prices are for each station. I did that and picked out the most expensive name brand station and posted it compared to the lower priced ones in the city.

Note the “lowest” and “highest” price spread for gasoline and diesel at the top of the apps page. Nobody was close to the prices posted. I think that was a AI fake. Lots of that going on lately.

Those prices are not reflecting the highest prices seen in SanDiego. They're just the highest "reported to GasBuddy". They do reflect "averages" correctly. Ironically, the averages shown are about the same as Fox News reported for San Diego's highest gas prices - last May.

I don't think the photo was doctored or AI. Do the same GasBuddy search for Seattle pricing and the same phenomenon will show up. The prices on average will be lower, yet a close friend shared the picture that I posted of her local Ballard gas prices. Her local station is definitely higher than average and higher than reported in GasBuddy. Same thing for our local prices, which are much higher than average.

Stopped to top off the tank yesterday, $3.73 for regular $5.85 for diesel. Had to wait in line the station was so busy and it's like that every time I need gas. No drop in demand there will be no drop in price. People at the pumps are like angry animals, not a fun place to be. Neighbor has a Tesla, parks it and plugs it in in her driveway, looks better every day.

Just saw something about the gov't lowering or dropping fuel economy standards. We're not falling we're diving to get further behind faster. I guess we're going with the energy policy of use more energy so we get there faster. Gas at $4 a gallon diesel at $6 and fuel mileage is the furthest thing from people's minds.
