I asked an installer to come look at my install just for the piece of mind before I fire my bk princess up.. he was asking questions and said I probably shouldn't have put silicone around the sheet metal firestop so that airspace could weep.. he said some people do it different.. should this seam be sealed, or no? The framing you see is the alcove ceiling, and the plywood/sheetmetal goes up into the chimney chase. So that area between the alcove ceiling and the firestop is a dead space. I insulated the bottom and sides of the space with roxul, but not the plywood of the firestop. It's an ICC Excel ceiling support..

rest of my install is here: https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/bk-princess-parlor-alcove-install.126215/page-3

My installer used actual fire stop caulking in those areas instead of silicone. Of note, my installer is also doing the safety inspection, I think I would have used it instead of silicone given it's intended purpose. Can't say if what you did is wrong or right, I'll leave that for others more qualified.

The ICC Excel installation manual says "Caulk the joint between the chimney and the collar with silicone caulking" That applies to the outside but in terms of safety, I can't see why there would be any difference between using silicone outside or inside.

The fire caulk is just silicone as well nothing special about it at all. I see no reason not to caulk that area
