One of my chimney sections (Security Chimney ASHT+ 6-inch) has a small dent in the male end, but the top surface of the male end is flat still and the outer and inner diameters of the pipe below the dent is unchanged. There is no deformation at all on the inside of the pipe.
The dent is about 1.5 inches log and 1/8 inch deep in the outside of what is really the male "thread". Pipes still thread together perfectly and there is no wobble. When pipes are threaded, IDs and ODs look normal - can't see dent.
Is this pipe OK to use? Supplier says yes, as long as threads together properly.
Unless the joint is supposed to be air tight (don't see how that could be from the design of it - no apparent sealing surfaces; there are actually bumps on the face at the bottom of the female joint which provides an air gap at that location), I think I am fine.
Thoughts? I can post a pic later if needed.
Thanks,
Pete
