'Smart' on/off switch for Quadrafire Sapphire

This probably applies to any stove with manual rocker-type on/off switch (I have a Quadrafire Sapphire nat'l gas): I want to replace the included standalone $6 Carling RS901 on/off switch with a simple setup I can control via smart plug and app (TPLink, Google Home, whatever). I'm a electrician noob but can learn (safely) and have experience building SBC's, PC's etc.

Don't need thermostat control at this time. Anyone ever do a build like this ↑ ?

Is is 120V? If so either wire it to a cord and plug it into a smart plug, or if you want to leave it hard wired, use a smart wall switch wired where it is accessible. I use a smart plug (Wyze) for a gas unit heater in my detached garage so I can turn it on remotely half an hour before working out there, but prevent operating below the lowest thermostat setting. Works great for anything that doesn't have a local "start" sequence/button.

Thanks for the reply. My Quadrafire is stand-alone, no 120v and just a thermopile-millevolt-driven on/off switch. But I think I've solved it - bought one of these, basically a dry-contact relay with 5v power over micro-USB connector. AC adapter will go in a TP-Link smart plug and voila I can control it from Google Nest home zone. Maybe I'll figure out the voice part too.

I see, your solution will work. if you want to reduce the part count and eliminate the AC adaptor and smart plug look for a smart garage door opener switch. Dry contact and direct 120v connection.

Thanks, good idea. I actually have another standalone stove (Dover) with similar thermopile-driven on/off - I'll try the smart garage door switch there.

I looked at some smart garage door openers here - do you happen to have any specific brand or part # suggestion? I think I understand the dry-contact part (ie opener just completes or breaks the on/off millivolt circuit to stove's gas valve), but what do you mean by direct 120v connection? Would that only be in case of existing 120v on/off to stove?

I've not use one and can't recommend, but this is an example that actually is powered by USB.

I mean direct connection instead of needing a smart plug.

These off-brand ones all seem to need their own app FWIW.

Looking around a bit and saw there are integrated solutions for what you want to do that aren't made for specifically garage door openers. Search "smart relay switch". That might be ever simpler.
