Have a 97 Breckwell P28I. Most of time lites fine, but two out of last 3 days after about 6-7 minutes stove filled with smoke before flame only took a few seconds then fire, and smoke cleared. Probably looks worse then it is. My kid says I shouldn't watch it lite. ;) Today it was fine tiny amount of smoke then fire. Anyone else have their stove lite like this?

Mine does the same thing every time.

Sounds normal.

Check my video of my stove starting up - here.

Happy Heating!

Listen to the kid. It's normal no worries.

Generally, where should the fresh air damper be set at when starting?
Don't mess with the damper...set it and forget it.

Sounds normal to me. You do need to fine tune the damper. It is not a set and forget. Level 1 needs the damper almost all the way in. To ease the lighting have the damper in the middle. At the higher heat settings open the damper a little more. Never run with the damper all the way open.

Yetsterday and today pellets in burn pot glowed red then tiny amount of smoke then flame. That is why I asked about chamber filling with smoke. I guess it depends what kind of "mood" stove is in. Either way it burns great and keeps family room nice and toasty.
