Smoke filled stove (briefly)!!!

I have a P68, everything has been great. I'm trying to test out some NEWP pellets and so thoroughly cleaned the stove so I could get an accurate picture of how much ash etc. I did not clean out the vent pipe, but did use one of those brushes that you would clean under your fridge with to clean the ESP and a little of the vent pipe I could reach. I also had vacuumed out the hopper. I used the auto ignitor as usual and when it first lit, I saw a cloud of smoke through the glass, which quickly dissipated. No smoke into house. It then fired up, got a nice flame, and continues to burn great. What the heck is that all about??? The dealer is coming for an end of the year check and cleaning in 2 weeks ($145) so he can check it out, but I was wondering if anyone had any idea what happened here, and if I should shut her down till then. Thanks.

my advance does that every time it starts up, never had smoke in the house I just think its the pellets Smoldering before they ignite. Once the flame in present the smoke quickly DISAPPEARS.

Thanks for the reassurance. I burned 2 1/2 tons and that never happened before. Was burning LGs and Dry Creek. Magic NEWP pellets maybe....

I am new to this pellet thing but so far it has happened with all the pellets I have burned (stove chow, greene team,freedom fuel)

It's normal, Sometimes I get a quicker ignite than others....Depends on the pellets, Next time the stove kicks on, Go outside and look at the exaust before the pellets ignite.....Alot of smoke comes out.....

I also get smoke most of the time (I have P45 which is similar). The chamber is pure white sometime-but poof- it flames and the smoke is gone. Quite a scene outside but its only temporary. I re-installed my ash pan - bucket backwards one time which I think might have blocked some air so maybe check that. Less smoke now that I've installed my ash pan the right way. I also adjusted the dip switches so not as many pellets load upon auto startup.

Same thing with my Advance sometimes it"s a little smoke, and sometimes it completely fills to the point you can't see anything inside the stove, and should see the smoke coming out the vent on the side of the house This always happens after I clean the stove.

Another Advance owner here. My stove has been behaving exactly like that since day 1. The smoke clears quickly and the stove blazes away.

It has happened to me with Hardwood Pellets and not having enough air during ignition/startup. The pellets will smolder longer filling the burn chamber with white smoke.

Next time you start it up increase the air ( pull out the damper a bit ) so the pellets will ignite quicker.

The flame will arrive quicker, cutting the smolder time short, less smoke.

Then after it starts you can readjust the damper as necessary.

Also make sure the burn pot is clean, If not the new pellets sit on the ash in the burn pot taking longer to ignite....Thus producing more smoke....

All the stoves I have seen light, do this. The way I explain it to my customers is like a ciggerrette (or what ever you chose to smoke...) if you were to actually set fire to a ciggerrette it wouldnt smoke nearly as much as if you let it burn/smolder like it is supposed to, when the stove is starting the pellets are starting to catch and they smolder and let out a bunch of smoke, then as soon as there is flame all the smoke goes away.

Totally Normal. My Advance did this every time it lit. I sold my Advance and installed a new P61 A and it does the same thing....
