We are almost ready to buy a Harman P68 pellet stove and an installer recently mentioned that we may have some dark smoke residue on the outside house walls where the vent exits even if the pipe has a vertical section for draft. The amount of residue will depend on the wind in the area of pipe exit. Has anyone experienced this? If so, is it difficult to clean? Thanks.

yeah, we used to have similar deposits left on our foundation where the pipe terminated. It had to be power washed off, but I'm not sure of the effect on regular siding.

yea, again, its possible- Ive seen it a few times. Seems to be alot of variables connected with it- type of siding, type/quality of pellet burned, efficiency of the burn, configuration of the pipe, the type of stove, prevailing winds, etc. One thing Id reccommend is to NOT put on one of those termination caps that slow down the flow. Ive had fairly good luck terminating with regular pipe, maybe a 90 degree ell, and no termination cap. Of course, the further you can get from the sidewalls the better. If you dont use a termination cap, make sure you cover the termination when you are done burning to keep the critters out....bids, squirrels, bats, bees, all love that nice dark little cave. Make sure to take it off before you light up again as well!

So, you got the p68, huh? Good choice....hopefully you also got a years' worth of pellets as well.....

Harry offered a good solution I too have seen siding get blackened. Another solutiion is to extend the pipe another 6"

Haven't quite ordered anything yet. Will likely do that this weekend, but we will definitely preorder about 3-4 tons of pellets!
