After two bags of my four bag test I find ash low, but comparable to Lignetics. Heat nothing special. Consumption average. After all I've read here I expected more.

Pellets only get so good and that's about it. So guess you have two good brands there.
Probably a lot more (think of them) when the price was 8 bucks a bag.....lol
I remember when i bought them then 3 yr's later got to the last few bags and thought the same...nothing great
One thing that impresses me is how little ash there is. I've burned almost 3 ton to date and emptied my ashpan 2 times.. Now thats 3 ton of pellets and 3 ton of corn mixed but still, very little ash.
Flipper it's kinda like a blind date that your buddy or your sister-in-law set you up with. They make the lady sound like the next best thing to Sandra Bullock and she ends up looking like Mrs. Miller.
Try some Lignetics Flip.
I have in the past and they are just as good. My issue is the Sets are more readily available here (on pre-buy) than the Lignetics. Both good, no doubt. A couple 4 years ago, I ran out at the end of season and got some Hamburgers Hot Ones and I remember they made a lot of ash but beggars can't be choosers and reading the posted article in another thread on here (A Forbes article), it may become harder to get good pellets in the future if, pellet mills can make more exporting to the EU, which I think sucks but profit it profit. I can always burn straight corn if it gets real bad. Thats readily available for me but it's not for the eastern seaboard owners.
Finally, Ms Miller isn't all that bad with a flat head.
And don't think I don't know what you mean.
but only with two bags. . . . .Only pellet I've found marginally better than Lignetics has been Blazers.

Those are not available here (Blazers). What I refer to, is next year pellets may becoime harder to get than this year, if exporting to Europe is more profitable than selling here.
Only tested four bags. Not readily available here either. So far my dealer provides Lignetics reliably and at a good price. If worse comes to worse I go back oil.
When I was a kid just starting out an old instrument tech, Bill Carty, at Mobil Paulsboro refinery had the letters X P D N C on his hard hat. I like that mantra.

We ordered some oil today just because we need it for the tenant . Of course last week it was 2.18, today it was $2.26. No idea where it will be this time next year.
If I could burn heating oil in my farm tractors I would. Off road diesel (red dyed) is still at $2.50 per gallon.
OK. Noticed one thing. 10f out and stove distribution fan has been shutting down more often than usual. Room temp is satisfied. This could mean that the Somersets are burning hotter for less pellets even though the stove temps are the same as Lignetics.

It's colder that that here, right now (-4 at 9:30 EST). I''m running striaght pellets tonite because the stove needs cleaned (tomorrow) and a corn/pellet mix might prove too much for the firepot to handle at 6.00 pounds/hr. The furnace has come on a couple times today (never got above 15 and it was windy too). We got hammered on snow (24" between Sunday and this morning with 5 foot drifts.... woohoo.....got a mild case of cabin fever today.....
It ain't a Harman but it keeps the abode warm (most times).

This is my first year a using a pellet stove and I think that the Somersets burn very dirty. I have more of a pellitized ash (more looking like cinders) then a fine ash.
My stove is a Ashby-P insert/St Croix. I have the two side small ash pans and the large one under the stove. The two small ash pans overfill with the pellitized ash and nothing really show up under the burn pot.

When we first started doing our research prior to purchasing our stove in March,2011-we joined this site and got a lotta good info......Somersets got a lot of good hype back then,and we found a place 35 miles away that had 'em.........they produced lots of fluffy ash in our stove,and burned fast.......So,a 70 mile round trip for a ton of pellets-plus Ohio charges sales tax on 'em- was not worth it for us,when we can get liggies and country boys within a 5 mile radius-and no sales tax----here in western pa.......
I'm beginning to think it sepends on the stove and the way the stove combusts them (CA air path and pot/burn chamber arrangement). No matter. If the pellet producers jump on the export bandwagon, won't be much to choose from anyway.
had 4 ton this year first ton was like I was used to, low ash great heat. the next three have been horrible ash, fills ash pan in less than a week, still O.K. heat. All that ash chokes the flame down.

He's in Ohio now. I am no pellet vine tasting specialist, but I am happy with the Sets and I do like them better than the ton of Pros. At $8 bucks a bag the pellet stove gets moth balled! Price of $224 per ton and I can go anywhere, any time and get them here. I am good with that. May never have the luxury of burning any of those designer $5 plus a bag pellets.
Where's TJ on this no fat, sugar free, low carb, whole wheat, bells and whistles designer pellet discussion?

The Pros were very similar and good also compared to the Sets, but lengths were not nearly as consistent. I found some "golf pencil" pellets on a regular basis in about every bag. My stove did the grinding chomping badda bings frequently running them. I can see where these longer lengths would create fits for some. Still a good pellet with the Pros on ash, heat and burn. Very much like the Sets just some were 1 1/2" to 3" long. No kidding!

but it was here and I get it. Also like the analogy. LOL!
