Not really surprising I guess, but not what I expected either. I just fixed up a neglected MS260, and wanted to try it out. Not having any trees that needed cutting, I answered a nearby Craigslist ad for some trees that came down in a recent storm, and offered to buck them up to make them easier for the homeowner to get rid of (I don't have the space to take the wood myself). I cut the two black locusts into chunks and left them in the yard.

As I was finishing up, the next-door neighbor waved me down and asked whether I charged by the tree or by the hour. It seemed he had a couple of trees downed in his yard too. And then, the next day, I got an email from the original homeowner saying her friends were impressed and asking whether I was available for paid work.

Well, Scotty Overkill does. Actually, cords should be deducted from his FHC total; He is already there, getting paid to get rid of the wood, so it's less work for him to take it home than it would be to get rid of it elsewhere. But if we docked him cords, I guess we would have to dock the guys that have a tree service dump cut rounds at their door....never mind. Some guys have it so easy....

Yeah, hard to believe isn't it? It may help ease the shock to know that there are lots of BL yard trees in my area so it's not hard to come by. Also these particular trees were on a steep hillside with no clear path down to a road; the only way to get the wood out is to hump it up the hill piece by piece. I'm not quite that desperate.

I've done a couple paid clean-up jobs before. If you are a guy who can reliably make wood disappear from people's yards you'll get a lot of word of mouth.

Jon, this is how my buddy and I got started and it has grown from there.........just don't get to the point where you are doing stuff that is really risky without the proper equipment, know-how and insurance.......

And always do a good clean-up.......we make the place look better than it did when we started, and I can tell you that word-of-mouth is the very best advertising you can get.......

Jon, this is how my buddy and I got started and it has grown from there.........just don't get to the point where you are doing stuff that is really risky without the proper equipment, know-how and insurance.......

And always do a good clean-up.......we make the place look better than it did when we started, and I can tell you that word-of-mouth is the very best advertising you can get.......

I could probably stack it on the edge of the yard where it sits, and come back for it when it's lighter. Hmm....
