Picture 4 here's what cause the cast hopper lid to crack... Dust in the hingethe hinge

some people think that if you terminate 12 inches above an opening window, that you can be just about as close to it horizontally as you wish.

The horizontal roof termination is EPIC to say the least. Who needs a storm collar? Also why bother flashing under the shingles when you can screw it to the house? The downhill run at the very end is really the icing on the cake of EPIC.

Working in a retail store... I see some things as well. Had a guy trying to convince me to allow him to put a Metal-Fab anchor plate on top of a 25 or so year old Superior See-thru so he could run 10" Class A all the way up. For one thing, he shed a small tear when I quoted him $900 for a small basic 6" system for the free JOTUL CASTINE his friends gave him. That was going to be his "temporary install" for his 492 square foot cabin until he could afford the 10" Insulated Class A system he planned to fit on his fireplace that requires air cooled chimney that hasn't been made since... who knows.

He said "I'm just really into the see-thru fireplace thing."

He paid $800 for a fireplace he'll never find venting for. He was mad I wouldn't order the 10" Class A for him because I told him I wouldn't assist him in burning his home down (I said it very politely mind you, not like that lol). He said he would find somebody who would be "more helpful" than I.

Thanks for the pic. I am glad you showed the Whitfield one, I just noticed sawdust forming around the auger motor of my Prodigy II. Looks like next year will be bushing time!

Don't forget the auger plate gasket when you replace the bushing. You get fines through there too.

If you draw the box as he describes if your are 1' above the window than no matter where you vent you would NOT be IN that box..

Maybe that vent is not a foot above...

Well I am not in the biz.... just a homeowner and kinda glad none of these things have I done (nor would I do) i actually credit this forum for maken me smaahhhtuh at least in pellet stove terms anyway.

I did follow up for a seller of stoves to those who wanted to do their own installs. Saved everyone a lot of grief. One install was done with PVC sewer venting.
