I bought a large amount of cut oak last spring. Lately I’ve noticed some pieces burn decent while other pieces burn crazy hot. I had 1 piece take my small wood burner over 900 degrees(it maxed out my gauge). Even warped my door slightly . I’ve noticed the extra hot wood is very square. No bark. I’m wondering if it’s some very old wood maybe from barn beams? Something is different about them. They are slightly heavier . 1 piece of this super wood can burn hotter than filling my stove with the normal oak

Looks like it could be a barn beam indeed - from the color.

Be happy you got dry wood !

You are the envy of many on here. Now that you know how to burn it...enjoy.

You envy bottoming out a 900 degree gauge? Ha

I was expecting things to glow orange. They didn’t. But it was making lots of noise. And now the door takes extra effort to close. Warped a bit

I've done it in my old jotul 3 a number of times. Luckily the jotul took it like a champ.
