Somerset Wood Pellets in SE WI

If you live in SE WI and bought Somerset wood pellets two years ago at your local Menards store, they could be sold again; as a result of a new Menards distribution center at Iron Ridge, WI in Dodge county. Somerset if you recall came in the black plastic bag and may have burned better than Marth wood pellets.
If you want them sold again (as I do) at your local Menards store, you have to do the following. Call or Email (through Menards website) the Plumbing manager and ask that an Email be sent to the buyer of wood pellets; stating that you want to buy Somerset wood pellets this year at Menards. I just sent an Email to my local store. It is easy, but many customers must ask for Somerset. Ask your friends that burn wood pellets to do the same.

Funny, I was buying Somersets last year from a retail distributor in Iron Ridge -- Wisconsin Pellet Distribution Center. Jeff Schickert is the owner, and a nice guy. Hope this doesn't mean he's going to be squeezed out of the market.

Yes. I bought a ton from him in April.

I hope he's still in business. It's strictly a side operation, so he may not call back til the weekend.

When I talked to him last spring he was lamenting that a lot of the bigger pellet manufacturers didn't want to deal with him because he was so small. That's why I'm worried that competition from Menards could eat into his supply.

I drove by that new Menards distribution center yesterday. Amazing. The last time I went by there a (couldn't have been even a couple years ago) the site was a farm field.

I bought Summersets at Hartj'e farm and Home in LaValle WI last year in the spring. Got 1 ton of the Jed's now. Corn price is low here so just filled 5 super sacks with 175 bu. of corn.

No Jeff won't be squeezed out. The buyer of stoves and pellets at Menards called me. Two years ago the price of Somerset pellets was low and they had enough stock to supply Menards in WI. Currently the price is higher and their stock is low.
According to the buyer, Marth has volunteered to do a new form of testing that all pellet makers will all have to do in the future. Menards demands weekly test results from their pellet makers. No longer will a pellet maker, make a good pellet one week and a lesser quality pellet the next week, with this new PFI Standards test.

The testing is an interesting idea. I hope this comes about. Nice to know Menards is trying to sell a good product instead of whatever comes down the pike. I bought 80% of my pellets last year from them. Somersets, Michigan wood fuels and Magic Spark. I'd buy any of them again.
