Question:

Please help! How can we rid ourselves of the embarrassing soot stains on our fireplace. I've tried cleaning it with soap and water and a brush. Any suggestions? How can we prevent it in the future.

Answer:

Try Speedy white, available at many Hearth Shops.<It does a god job ! As far as avoiding it, if you have these type of stains on the outside of your fireplace, it means smoke is spilling out. A set of glass doors will probably help. Also, run the fire a little hotter, especially at first, to warm up the flue well and get it drafting upwards.
