Is this rubber hose satisfactory between the hydraulic reservoir and the pump? I'm pretty sure it is on the inlet side of the pump...so does that make it low pressure? The output side of the pump, and all the other hose in/out of the ram are high pressure hoses.

It is about 1" and that kink looks undesirable but wondering if it really has any impact other than poor assembly?

The kink is probably a minor flow restriction and may lead to shorter life of the hose. Most important is to have hose that is compatible with oil.
 
The (suction) pump supply hose should resist collapse and be somewhat ridged. You are correct, it is not pressurized but a normal low pressure hose may give you trouble. I'd just keep an eye on it while in use, especially when everything is hot. Watch for any collapse while in use.
 
If I can get the motor/pump moved over the necessary 1" to make it line up (which is going to require significant cutting and rewelding of the mounting bracket)..what type of hose do I want to purchase to replace it? It feels like radiator hose and is only 6" long.
 
You might be able to gain your inch with common black pipe fittings (hardware store/ HD stuff). For the suction line, see what NAPA has, or look in the yellow pages for someone that makes hyd hoses, they will be able to advise you after you describe what you're doing.

Replace it now, not later. Go to a place like Napa and they will sell you a suction side type of hose. It is reinforced with coiled wire and can deal with temps. that your oil might reach. How do I know? A husky 22 ton splinter I was using digested a 3/4 inch chunk of that lower grade hose and wiped out the seals in the hydraulic ram....$$$$ I found the chunk in the reservoir tank. Hope that helps.
 
As said - that is low pressure suction hose. Is there a reason that you want it moved? I wouldn't be afraid of running it like that. The very, very minor restriction that little kink is providing is more than likely a moot point.
 
I didn't know if it was an issue or not.
 
That 3/4 inch piece of rubber also damaged the pump.$$$$$ now it has the proper hose and a simple 90 elbow straightened out the kink it had previously.

I would remove the suction strainer/filter and move it to return
At least in cold country
 
Kevin - do you concur that wahoo will be okay with this config?

yes agree with jags, run it. Watch under high temps soft, or cold startup that it doesn't suck in. Probably does not have a wire insert in the rubber layers.

I was referring to the pic above with the spin on, then spiral radiator hose I think. I would remove the suction filter/strainer, then move it to return.

I am a little paranoid on suction lines, and case drain lines (not used on splitters) especially in cold startup conditions. High case pressure or suction vacuum eats variable open loop piston pumps at $3000 to 10,000 a pop.
