How many square feet do a ton of pellets take up for storage. I plan on getting four tons, so would like to know the footprint for storage.

Pallet size may be brand dependent ... I do recall some have bags extending slightly off pallet. Just off-loaded Okanagan Platinum into the pellet shed and the pallet measures 40" x 48.5". Are you planning on leaving intact w/wrap or stacking higher? If intact, how are you moving into location?

It depends on how high you want to pile them. Mine come on pallets that are 40" x 48". Yours may vary.

If you can stack 'em high enough you could keep the footprint at the dimensions of one bag. Good luck keeping it from falling over, LOL.

A ton of pellets on a pallet is around 3.5' x 4' x 3.5' high, it will vary a little with different pellet manufactures. If you can stack a ton on top of a ton on a pallet, like i do, it's not really a big footprint.

Need something to be able to stack the pellets that high. If you are hand stacking, or pulling them off the stacks by hand, then you probably can't go 7' high (unless, of course, you are close to that tall). I can get about 1.5 tons on one pallet before they get too high to comfortably stack - could go a bit higher if I was just going to unstack though.

A 6ft. step ladder works very well when stacking pellets 7+ feet high.

We have 2 really long skinny pallets that are just wide enough for a bag of pellets. We can stack 4 tons on them 6 feet high

Not looking at stacking or moving them from the way they come. They will go in my garage and when burning season comes one ton will go thru the basement window and others will stay in garage til needed.

I don't stack, and I can get 4 pallets along the back wall of my garage into a space that's 15 feet long, 4 feet wide. Add at least an extra 6" in each direction for slop.

[Hearth.com] Square feet for pellet storage Here's our storage. The second pallet is in front of it and stack just as many on front. The Mr is 6' tall

Since you're not restacking them: the pallets are 40"x48" but there can be overhang. I always call it 42"x50". If you stack them a few inches apart (so you can remove the cover without having to move the other tons), plan on four 45"x50" spots.

I got a pallet jack to move the pellets closer to the boiler when needed, and to rearrange them if needed.

Myself, I stack them 3 high.

Around here, we call it a forklift.

Well, yeah, that works for you - you have barns and structures you can put the pellets in. A fork lift ain't fitting in my basement >>. Heck, it probably couldn't even get in my garage (ceiling at ~7', door maybe 6' tall), or at least not to stack - and that would be if both my car and pellets could fit in my garage. So, everything around here is hand carried into the basement and stacked manually.

We used to do it 'manually' too. Thats fine when the 'participants' are your age, not so good when they are my age....

Back in the day, we used to send them through a basement window on a kiddie slide down the basement to a helper that stacked them agasinst the wall. Thats too much 'work' now.

Not sure how old you think I am - (hint, I was married almost 29 years, and didn't get married young). Don't have any helpers, so I do what I must to get it done. Necessity is a great motivator.

Somehow, I believe I have you by a few... I've been married 32 years this time with 3 previous before that.,,,lol
