I can’t find any info on mine and it’s a little different looking than the picture in that sales brouchure for the model 50500 that it has sliding dampers vs the round knobs. The riveted plate says “WOOD AND COAL” and I’m wondering annyone has ever seen one used with coal, and what kind of grate or basket I should have in there. The stove works fine with wood just interested in trying coal because I hear it stays hotter and lasts longer, and some factory worker 40 years ago put it on a metal plate telling me that I could.

There are caveats regarding coal burning. It may be capable, but not very well. Is there a stainless steel liner on the stove? If so, it should be of a grade that is safe for the corrosive effects of coal.

Here's a bit more info on coal burning in a stove like this.
