St Croix afton help

Bought a older Afton off CL from a guy. $300. It seems 98ish. Auger seems to dump at the same speed no matter what. 1 to 6 seems change fan speeds fine. Manual Start is new to me. But the burn basket has a teetering base and it, has a 1" hole in the center. Should I just weld a washer or something in there. Or is this part common size for a lot of these Stoves. Got it to burn. Just took my "new to pellet stoves " ass longer then I would ever admit to get it to light.
The Ceramic tiles were destroyed. Do I need them? Can the back be exsposed metal.? Any tricks to lighting this thing quicker.?

I would guess most of the parts are pretty standard. Do you have a manual for it? If not, here is one for the newer model - it will just have the auto light instead of manual. (broken link removed to http://www.mainstreetfireplace.com/pdfs/StCroix/StCroix-PB-AftonBay-Operations.pdf) On page 23 it shows your grate weldment and the next page gives the part number. Those are mostly the same parts that go on the Hastings and other stoves, so I would think you can get replacements easily - just google the part number.

No manual. Thank you. Is there a way to swap the controller to a newer one? Is it possible to make it auto start. Worth it?

Someone more electrically inclined would need to answer about the auto ignite. To me that would seem to be a daunting task. I don't think I've ever read of someone adding auto ignite, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been done.

There are two small trap doors on either side of the burn pot on mine. They are under the decorative slotted pieces, which you will have to lift out. Very important to keep those passages clear! Go to St Croix's web site and watch the videos on how to clean the stove. Newer stoves have a third clean-out door behind the ash pan - I doubt that yours has one. Their web site also has a cut-away view of the stove's passages, as does the manual. The Leaf Blower Trick has worked well for me, I have no need for the third door, but would like to have had one, anyway.

The ignitor is installed in a passage in the front of the stove, and there is a larger hole in the front of the burn pot to accommodate it. You'll have to see if that passage is there to begin with, before getting involved with the electrical end.

I see the two main cleanouts to either side of the chute looking thing in the second picture. The third cleanout should be behind the ash can (See Figure 7 of page 11 in the manual).

I could sure use the height and width of the opening under the cover being held there with 2 screws. It would need to be removed to clean the ash trap behind it.

I looked around it. Not 100% sure I know where you mean. This one pic is from under the blower in the rear. It looks like it is directly behind the pellet burn basket. Also has a rod going through it to some thing. Unsure. Will look better after work. This was at 4am

That is the ashpan removed.

That is an older stove so it may or may not have a cleanout behind the ash pan, they made changes on the newer models, the hole is for the igniter, not worth fixing imo just soak some pellets in a jar with charcoal bbq starter and dump a half inch in the burn pot, works fine, you need to fix the auger so it cuts in and out most of all, can you post a closeup pic of the back of the board?

That's a digital board, not adjustable, the two contacts at the bottom are for the igniter, if there's a pellet feed button make sure its not stuck on.

The button isn't stuck. When I get it lit I hit feed start. The light flashes and then it starts feeding.

Are the two top screws for a T Stat?

I don't know about the screws I've only seen one board like that but is that a jumper just above the screws? you might want to try that, being used you never know whats been done to it.

Are you talking about the screws or the two prongs by his fingers? Those prongs look like they are in the location of the thermostat hookup of my late Hastings.

FishHarder: I assume the top of the stove in this pic is to the left where the pellet chute is? What I really need is the height and width of the small rectangular opening just to the right of the small bolt in the middle of the pic. Height and width? I don't see the holes for the two screws that should be there to hold the cover plate on. Are they missing? That must be the Versa-grate shaft to the right of the rectangular opening. My stove has a name plate on the back with the date of manufacture engraved on it (month and year). If yours was made in 2007 or later it would verify that yours would most probably have the 3rd clean out.

OK so the small rectangle is 3"x1/2" the screw you see is actually what holds a plate in place I only now noticed. The plate goes to the bottom of the pan. The hole the plate covers is 5" x 3"
