Hi, Guys
Has anyone changed the convection blower on a st.croix greenfield. Mine sounds awful
Was wondering how hard it was.
Thanks

Take it apart and put new bearings in,,,I am going to rebuild my backup one this weekend.

I rebuilt mine. The hardest part is getting plastic fan cages off without breaking them. Any motor shop has bearings. I used a 1/4 in. pipe nipple to push bearings back on so I didnt damage the plastic sheilds on bearing. Fan mounts at bottom back of stove. remove rear bottom sheilds and motor is there. you will need a 1/4 in. nut driver.

Good info - I'm sure I will have to do the same to my Hastings at some point.

Just for reference, these are my room blowers, made of metal. It doesn't show well in the photo, but the concave part of each vane is packed solid. I had to scrape the dirt out, then wash the cages. This is how the stove was sold to me (used). I got much more airflow after the cleaning. I clean them every year, and get nowhere near the dirt. Guess they were never cleaned before!

so your fan had a little dirt? Check this picture out:)[Hearth.com] St.Croix fan

I'm new to pellet stoves, but the nastiness of that fan doesn't surprise me at all. Since you're all computer users, try taking a look inside there someday, especially if you have a desktop that sits on the floor!
