Started restacking for winter

Restacked almost a cord on the patio. I resplit as I went and was pretty happy. All of my Pine from spring is in the 13-16% range. And most of my soft Maple from late spring is under 21% with a couple of weeks worth of drying time left. A few large splits are still at 25% so they went in next year"s stack. Most of my Oak is even under 20%.

Looking forward to running my little insert hard to see what it can do.

Cool. I brought a half cord up to my deck this weekend too. Never in my life have I watched the forecast so intensely looking for those sub 40 nights. :D

Yup. I started moving mine this weekend. I had seven cords cords out on the seasoning racks and an empty wood shed Friday night when I got home. My face cord rack in the garage is full, 5.5 more cords to move into the shed. Next winters log load should be here in 3 weeks, no time pressure here =)

Stacked the three cord for this season in the shed just outside the breezeway in May. Just like every year.

Moved a cord into the small garage over the weekend. Will be moving more each evening this week. I can get 2.5-3 cord inside leaving an corridor down the middle and some room around the bandsaw for a little resizing now & again

I have about 30 wheel barrow loads in the basement. Need 10 more to fill my racks. Better get me past Thanksgiving.

I only have about a quarter cord in handy storage. The rest is still out in the sun and wind to dry.

This is my first wood burning season, and my wood is mixed (some ready, some not). I'm figuring to use the rest of September and most of October for more seasoning.

Of course, since I don't have a wood shed yet, most of it is going to sit outside anyway (will do something to reduce snow and ice infiltration).

I've been burning for a few years now and every year prior, I'd try to wait until the last minute possible to move wood to the wood shed. This would put me towards the end of October or into November. My thought was to let it get every minute of sun and wind possible, even after I'd managed to get a few years ahead. It'd never work out, due to rain, snow, or other things taking priority and at best the wood shed would get 2/3 full before I was taking wheelbarrow loads from it to feed the fire.

Well not this year! I've got it 3/4 full already and will finish it up before the middle of October. Feels good to know I'm not going to deal with running low on covered wood come March this coming winter.

Here's my before and after from last May. I will tarp next year for next seasons burn. I prob have 2 cords dry and will move in to the garage around thanks-giving, so I should have 6+ cord 2 years. Next year May, I will get another 6 cord to build up dry wood stock. I also borrowed a splitter this year and will do same next year.

I haven't seen my wood pile yet, but the trees were bucked and stacked in the back 30 (nope, don't have a back 40'!). The 2x4s and 2x6s are in a pile somewhere out there too (I hope not in the garage -- I want to be able to get a car in there)! I know the bucks are Oak, Ash, and maybe pine. I'll be splitting them down the road cuz I have to get moved in first! There is light at the end of the tunnel . . . just got my estimate from a moving company!
