This past heating season my surround lost a little bit of paint. It is only about 6" x 3" but it's down to bare metal and I'd like it to look as good as it did when it was new. I've removed the offending bit of surround and I've got the matching paint from the dealer, but before I started, I was hoping that somebody could tell me if my following process was any good:

1. Sand the area with 400 grit (wet or dry?) sand paper to remove the edges where the paint meets the metal.

2. Sand the same area with 600 grit paper.

3. Go outside and spray a light coat of paint on the required areas.

4. After the last coat is dry repeat.

Thoughts?
