Stock Black paint color on VC Montpelier

Hi again guys,

I want to paint the used VC Montpelier I got earlier this summer and get it looking brand new again before installing.

Does anyone know the brand and exact color of black VC uses on the Montpelier?

I am sure it is stove brite paint. Look at it if it has metalic flakes it is metalic black if not it is just flat black. From memory i dont think it is metalic but i am not sure i dont work on to many of them. If the stove has been used you will need to repaint the whole thing anyway so the color doesnt have to be perfect.

From the look of the Montpelier black finish I would say it is more like a Satin Black and not flat.

You may very well be right. I like satin much better when ever i am repainting a whole stove i use satin.

Any prep tips or hints? I've got a bit of surface rust to brush off, but other than that the insert is in real good shape.

Wire brush off the rough stuff, then follow with steel wool. Wipe down with alcohol, then paint. Do this in a well ventilated location. The fumes from this paint are very strong and can cause brain damage.

Will do Begreen. Gotta order the paint yet - I imagine the instructions are on it but how long do I have to wait before doing a break in burn?

I'd like to burn it in my driveway and cure it to avoid getting the fumes in the house (our little one is about to turn 1 and would prefer to keep as many chemical fumes out of the house as possible)

Should be ok to burn in 4 hrs. but I usually wait until the next day.
