Hi everyone,

In a separate thread I came to the conclusion that I'm going to install a new Class A chimney for a wood stove that will be located on the first floor. The stove pipe will go straight up to the second floor and then the chimney will pass through a bedroom, through the attic, and out the roof. I'm looking for a recommendation as to which brand of stove pipe and chimney pipe to use. The options I've found so far are ICC and Selkirk Metalbestos (from a stove shop that is a bit of a drive), DuraPlus (from Home Depot), or DuraTech (from a bunch of online dealers). Does anyone have any experience with any of these brands, or have a website that they've bought from and liked? Are there other brands I should consider? Also, any tips / information on installation would be appreciated!

Thanks!

All the materials you get are UL approved no matter which brand. Along with that, I can't think of a brand where I have seen horrible reviews.

My advice is buy whichever brand comes from the stove shop you feel most confident in and is most knowledgeable.

I went to lowes, they sell the supervent. As you will find out, it is not cheap. You can get them to knock a few bucks off if the pipe sections are dented(as they always are) The instructions they provide are more like guidelines too. You should do plenty of googling before cutting any holes.

Good luck

Double wall is just fine. You have to make bigger holes with triple.

Check out www.dynamitebuys.com if you buy online. Sean is very helpful amd knowledgeable. Not sure if you should mention hearth.com tho.

If you choose M&G pipe I would go with the DuraTech.

+1 Just completed a new install from stove straight up and out (DVL to DuraTech) easy to work with, looks great, solid feeling well made system. The have made some improvements to the DVL stove pipe acc's that had a few complaints in the past, no complaints here.
Glad I spent just a little extra on the M&G system, although the others will work just fine. ICC will probably be the highest priced and is heat stress rated the highest to Canada standards, very nice product also. As said above though they are all UL listed.

Thanks Todd. I'm leaning towards the DuraTech but still considering ICC. Did you do the install yourself? Did you buy your pipe locally or is there an online retailer you suggest? Thanks again!

I have ICC, nice stuff. I'm sure they all work comparably once installed. The 1" wall thickness may help in some installs.

Yes I installed myself, and I bought locally through a dealer (complete package stove & all) Shop around and get your best deal, I liked buying from local dealer to avoid shipping damage, dents & dings look horrible on a nice new chimney system and a pain to return or wait on shipping or if you make a measurement mistake swapping out at a dealer is usually less involved but your best deals will probably be online. Most of your googled dealers on line are safe purchases. If you find a dealer on line you are in question of post it on here and you should get some feedback.

I just bought a pile of duratech stuff from an online vendor but picked it up locally. I am a simpson (MG ) fan.
