In the less expensive, pre made stove boards, I see type 1 & 2. Whats the difference, and what is rated for underneath a pellet stove ?

Your P43 shouldn't require more than Ember Protection. An appropriately-sized piece of metal or Durarock will do...
 
Ok. Type 2 will be safer though. It will be on my Brothers P38+. Trying to avoid the $350 pads the dealers sell. They are nice, but he is a tight budget.
