We currently have an 1975 vc defiant . It is about 25" deep and is sitting about 4" out from the old fireplace that has a 9" depth and is level with the room. Fireplace measurements inside are h31w37,d9. The hearth floor brick extends about12" from stove on front and sides, level with the pine plank flooring. There are doors to other rooms on both sides of the fireplace and the main room is narrow with just 3-6 feet for navigating between our stove and room furniture.

We were planning on a BK Ashford 30 but the 2 dealers didn't return our calls. We really liked the WS Profile and reserved one but after remeasure think it is too big.

Please suggest any stove that might be smaller but gives heat to this drafty 3500 home. Ty!

Hi,
By WS Profile, did you mean the Woodstock Progress Hybrid?

9" is very shallow. Is this at the top or bottom of the fireplace opening?

A house that large may need 2 stoves, especially if it is leaky and poorly insulated. Is there another location for a stove or insert? Pictures are always welcome.

I can't really heat a slightly smaller (2770sqft) newer (1900) house with 2 stoves on the coldest winter days... no problem on the average day but single digits or less and windy and my house is in the low 60's / 50's. I'd say your going to have to do some mods to get a bigger stove in there, or a second one... if trying to heat exclusively with wood.

Looks like the short leg option will get the Progress into your fireplace, but you probably would have to extend your hearth. At 25", the Progress is the exact same depth as your VC...probably should have a hearth extension for the VC too.;)
If you want to be sure, call Woodstock and they will be happy to go over the hearth requirements with you. You don't get a local dealer with Woodstock, but you do get excellent support. When you call them with a request, they do their best to accomodate you, unlike so many places today.
