Fpx 44 elite Burning Soft maple 20 % MC highest temp so far 400 deg.

Here what I have been doing
outside temp about 50

First load
Top down air wide open dampner full out

Up to 350 burn down to coals about an hour

2nd load

maybe 5-6 med splits
Full air 20 min untill all splits fully charred no increase in temps.
Engage cat by slowly pushing in dampner now 400 deg
45 min cat fully engaged 400 deg and stays there for bit

I have almost 30 ft of stack, dry wood, Seams like goos draft as it wants to suck the doors in when closing them.

Confused what am I doing wrong?
I even double checked the temp with Ir gun
Taking temp on top of the doors above the handles

Try burning smaller splits until you get a real good bed of coals and then go bigger, I had a fire last night with wood that was 17 - 20 % moisture, did the smaller splits then normal size and burned 400 - 450 flue temps. Stove top temps 550 - 600.

It sounds as if all the heat is going up the chimney. Damper it down really low if possible. No reason it should not be higher heat, especially with dry soft maple. Put a load of that in my stove and ZOOM! Our draft control goes from 1-4. If I put in all soft maple, after 10 minutes I'd have the draft at .25 and the cat. engaged.
