Hi all ,
i am researching lining my terra cotta chimney with a 6" SS liner. It looks pretty straightforward except when I get to the Tee that transitions the liner thru the thimble. It looks like the Tee comes apart and the 'Snout" of it has a hose clamp on it that fits around the main part of the Tee and then simply draws the two parts together. I have a couple of questions:
1. should I silicone the joint where the tee comes together on the inside of the tee
2. where the snout protrudes thru the terra cotta thimble should I cement the snout in place thus filling in the space between the thimble and snout pipe
3.My biggest concern is how do I now attach the black stove pipe to this uncrimped straight snout pipe. Is there some sort of adapter that I have not come across

thanks
john

No sealant of any kind is needed on the Tee, or thimble. I stuff ceramic wool insulation between the snout and the masonry thimble. Typically the end of the snout that protrudes from the chimney will get cut to length and crimped.

I do exactly what webby said but i do cover over the insulation with mortar. Well acctually chamber tech regular mortar wont hold up for long
