Question:

Should stove pipe be connected in a specific orientation,i.e. "ridges" up? What is the temperature of a stove pipe?

Answer:

Crimps (or ridges) should face down toward the stove., This assures that water and creosote will run down into the pipe below..not onto the outside of the pipe and your floor/stove. Don't worry, the smoke will go up. Seal all joints with furnace cement and 3 screws.
