Stove reccomendation

I have been looking for a rear vent stove with a side clearance of 15" . I am getting lost with the looking and not sure of the quality of the Napoleons or Drolets, Osburns etc. that I see on the online stores. The local dealers all want MSRP for the Quads, Jotuls and such . I thought about buying from the online vendors but not sure what to look at.

None of the Drolets, but the Quad Yosemite, Cumberland Gap and Isle Royale can rear-vent. Trouble with the first two is that they are side loaders. Can't check right now but I think that requires at least 16" on the door side if not more. Take a look at the Hampton H300. I think that comes in right at 15".

Why is rear-vent a requirement? Top vent will offer more options if possible.

Also, call around to multiple dealers. The smaller ones may be getting eager to move some inventory.

OK. I should have been clearer. None of the brands your searching for on the interwebs are rear vent. Plenty of rear vent stuff out there, but you will have to purchase it locally.

I just checked and the Napoleon 1600C does have a reversable collar and can rear-vent. If you use double-wall pipe and have the rear heatshield the side clearance is listed at 12". Obidiahs and Dynamitebuys.com both sell it online. Also, www.chimneysweeponline.com sells the Hearthstone Shelburne online, but that has an 18" clearance. The Craftsbury is 14" though.

Thanks guys. Rear vent is my only option as I have a wood mantle mounted about 59" above my hearth. I cant go up and then back because most want 2 or 3 ft of vert before the 90 back. I cant go straight up as I would have to pull the stove forward to get clearance to the mantle. I have a cathedral ceiling and would have an ugly offset to clear the rafters, plus my wife doesnt want to see the chimney blocking her river rock wall and hickory mantle. So , out the back and then up through a dedicated chase that was there for the previous gas stove. One side wall is 15" to the riverrock at a 90 off the back wall. The other side is at a 45 * to the back so clearance on that side is ok.

Sorry for the crappy pic but my camera was dead. I-Phone. This is a Harman P-61A pellet stove currently. Need a stove to heat about 1100 ft in my family room and kitchen. The kitchen is about 800 ft , stove room is about 300

Maybe check out Buck stoves if you like steel stoves, I think they are the only steel manufacture out there with a rear vent.

Good suggestion, the Buck 261 is rear vent, but it looks like it might be too deep for the space.

Wood stoves need a significantly different chimney system than a pellet stove. What is currently installed, pellet vent? What is behind the wall? Is it s diagonal wall chase and if yes, how deep?

Pellet vent, yes , back and 45* through the outside wall. The chase behind the wall is probably 4' x 4' , its a continuation of the two square outside walls. The back stove wall is at a 45 * to them but pulled in 4* if that makes sense. I can easily open an 8' step ladder and still get around in there. Used to be a gas stove chimney going up through the chase.

Sounds like there's plenty of room to tear out the pellet vent and replace it with class A piping then. The thimble that the stove connects to (passing through the wall) will need a minimum of a 12" x 12" framed opening with no closer combustibles. Do you know how they constructed the stone wall? Is this on cement board or plywood?

Its wire lath nailed over drywall and wood framing. Lots of room for class A chimney , just the rear vent needed , and most importantly the right side restriction. I will also need to extend the hearth in front to maintain the rear clearances and also the 16" from door to hearth front. Appreciate the help begreen.

Napoleon makes a good stove. The biggest setback from my perspective is the fact that you cannot deal directly with the factory. I hate having to go through a middleman but we do love our Napoleons, both of them! (even though the NZ300 isn't finished yet!)
