[Hearth.com] Stove top paint issues
Jotul Greenville V2 installed in December. I didn't expect the paint to do this after 1 season. When I recently wiped clean the top of the stove to remove a little ash, I noticed the paint was almost powdered and little black specks just flake off. Could this be a defect or could this have happened from over-firing my stove?

Probably not, sometimes paint isn't put on properly and it'll peel. Simple touch up repaint of the stove top. Jotul I think uses satin black paint, but matte black would be fine too. Stay warm.

How was it when you fired up the stove after you painted it? Pretty stinky? How long until it stopped stinking?

I have a similar issue with my brand new Lopi Large Flush Wood (installed this past summer). Although it's not the top, but face where paint chipped off. Not really sure why, coz that part doesn't even get that hot:

I wrote to Lopi and their reply was to use Stove Bright Brand Charcoal/New Iron paint touch for that and follow curing procedure on the can it is different than the unit curing. So I guess it happens...

It's just lazy manufacturers or a defective paint. We have the technology to make paint stick. You wouldn't expect this on a new car would you?
