I understand the optimum stove top temperature is around 500-600 F. On my insert I can't access the stove top or liner.
I only have a small metal strip on the door where I have an Inferno thermometer. Any idea if a 500 degree door would give you a higher or lower stove top. FYI I had wild cherry with blue flames going but still got that buildup on the glass.

My manual only states to not let the body of the unit glow.

Posted this morning. Thought I would bump to the top to try to get advice. Burning my last cord of 5 year old Hurricane Sandy wood at about 15 percent.
