Stoves on Craigslist - a big old Englander, and a weird one from Norway.

OK, so I had never heard of Englander till I came on this forum a few days ago. but I just saw this big old one on craigslist. Is it really really old? I imagine that one like this isn't particularly desirable?

And this one is really pretty intriguing because it's small and has a funky modern shape, sort of. Look familiar to anyone?
I have never seen one quite like this but it is funny to see such "modern" design in a really rusty old stove.

I bet that big Englander is a wood eaten machine and that other stove looks like a coal burner.

Jotul #1 on the Norway one - assuming it actually says Jotul or Norway on it. There were copies made in Taiwan. That Jotul is a good stove. The Englander obvious lasts, but will be somewhat more of a creosote hog. (smoke dragon, classic, whatever).

Wow, you sure are good. I'll bet that must be it, since their description says only "small stove made in Norway" - looks exactly like the one in the picture! Huh, cool. Since I already just bought one stove I probably can't use though (and haven't even gotten home yet) I guess I won't spring for any other cool projects at the moment... but it is good to know. So that old thing is probably only from the '70s!

the englander seems to be a 28 b which is the same unit my dad had in his basement from 1977 through 2005 when we put in a 28-3500. his old unit is still fully functional and still sitting in the basement (its about a 600 lb unit , so moving it out of the basement is not exactly a priority) we heated with that stove in his house for as long as i can remember. the house is 3600 square ft counting the block wall buried basement (unfinished) and unless the temps dipped into single digits it would heat the whole house. it has a small blower (4c443) that blows into the upper chamber which is sealed from the firebox , pushing heat out of the 6 inch collar at the top (stove is rear flued) the blower on dads unit is virtually new , with the way his ducting was set up the blower wasnt really necesssary most of the time. that specimen listed on craigslist looks to be in fair shape , however the bottom door hinge loos to be worn a bit , that may be why the door looks a bit crooked. anyone looking to pick this unit up better bring help though virtually the entire stove is made from 1/4 inch plate steel and its fuly bricked out so needless to say , its quite the load.

Every time I look at ebaY and Craigslist searching "wood stove" in the search window it is like going to a antique wood stove museum on line gallery. Most of that old iron would be more useful re-cast into new ten pound boat anchors, frying pans, engine blocks or new wood burning stoves..

That's exactly what I am doing, just for fun! I think it is fun to see what people are asking for things and see what's out there. Plus it's cool to learn about these old stoves as I go. If they weren't so darn big and heavy I bet a lot of people on here would have a big collection of them!

That is neat! Looks like old deco furniture, or victrola cabinets, refrigerators even! Cool. Wish I could find one I saw earlier today on Craigslist, it was an old Morso, I think, that was green enamel, a "modern" shape and had these little spiky things on it, looked like a monster or something!

OK wait, I found a couple of those, but they don't look as odd as the green one, must be the same stove though... check out the red one!
