Stupid Question - CO Detectors and Pellet Stoves

So I was thinking the other day and was wondering why everyone pushes CO detectors with pellet stoves. I can understand them with petrol combustion sources but why wood burning appliances?

For example:
Wood+O2-->CO2 (not CO) and H20

Is CO created by incomplete combustion/contaminants? Just trying to rationalize my 4 CO detectors in my house above and beyond because I have an oil furnace. I tried googling this of course but there really is not any explanation specifically. Once again I am probably over-thinking things...its a curse.

Yes I'm awake, just busy playing with new toys and not interested in telling folks getting 6 blinks, flashing number#2 lights, etc ... to clean their da** stoves.

For anyone dropping in over 80% of all pellet stove issues are caused by crud in the air paths.
