Hello from Northwest Georgia
Looking for some help & answers.
I'm replacing my inside prefab fireplace before the end of spring. Currently I have a back to back set-up, one inside the other outside on the covered deck.
My Wonderful Wife does not like the idea of a free standing stove in the great room (18' vaulted ceiling)
I hope to change her mind.
I would like the free standing stove.
The installer recommended a "Zero Clearance Fire Place" due to the tight fit of the back to back set-up.
I asked about heat out put, he said "it will heat just as good as a free standing stove"
I asked how can this be as it seems to be no difference other than a door than the original fireplace,
his answer "it has a 3 speed blower, and if this was my house I would go with the Zero Clearance"
NOTE: he said an insert won't work due to not enough height of the existing fireplace.
So if I will indeed get the same heat output as a free standing stove, I'll keep the Wife happy. I just know we will probably hate that blower noise, as this is the room where we watch TV and gather with family and friends.
Looking forward to your advice & suggestions on which type I should get that will heat well.
PS: I have been reading your Forum for some time now and did an introduction yesterday and joined up.
