Awesome indeed. Your planning has paid big dividends and should into the future. Nice to find one of these guys wanting to get rid of wood. I answered a craigslist add about 50 miles from my home saying they had several oaks cut down in their yard and wanted them hauled away but they were not free. I emailed them and after a few days they replied I could have it for $250.00. Wow, not a deal in my book and that is what I answered back, wishing them luck to sell it. They said they had asked the tree guy who cut it down for them and he said it was a deal at that price. Not for me.

Some folks are nuts - like the folks trying to sell old crappy stoves right now for $800. Get a clue...
250 cut stack and delivered for a couple of cords, yep send em my way. Sounds like the tree guys did not want to haul it.
yea, craigslist is full of crazies. My favorite is the ones who say free wood, just cut the tree and take everything away, then grind the stump. Yea right.
I did find this tree guy on craigslist though. He posted an ad needing arborists. I told him I wasn't an arborist but I had land he could dump on if he wanted.
He told me straight away he doesn't dump but said he's be working like 5 miles away on a big job and he'd tell me where to go. This was 2 months ago.
I've already got about 4 cord from him so far and what he cut yesterday and today will be at least that much more.
I'm stocking up big time. This will be only my second year burning and I got screwed buying last year. It's not going to happen again, though I'll still probably have to buy some this year unless I can get a lot more ash.

Spouses never understand. But they do not complain when its 72 degrees in the middle of winter either.
My girl doesn't complain. She sits 3 feet from the stove so I figure it's about 90 where she is in the winter.
Ever notice how everyone migrates to the stove the first couple nice spring days when they come in...trained to go to the stove to warm up! I always ask my wife what she is doing...

...and it would only be delivered if I delivered it myself. I never found out how much was there or the size of the rounds which may have made it more interesting but probably not.
I enjoy free to but I am more than willing to pay 125 a cord ;~) I know about delivery, I was being a smart arse! In the end only the woodburners will be warm this winter. Unless you count the escalating blood preasure from the gas/oil/propain bill, and yes I spelled it like that for effect

That is the whole truth.
We have been heating with cheap propane for several years taking a break from our wood burning. Sit in the house with a temp of 69 with sweaters on trying to convince ourselves it was warm and comfy. Started the wood stove last winter about Jan and what a difference. With the cost of comercial fuels I am glad we will be sitting in nice warmth for the winter and not trying to stay warm at a fantasy temp in our minds.
yea, I'd pay 125 per cord all day, that's a great price. Problem is, people here are asking 225 per cord now. It sucks. I really think I'm going to have to pay for it this year but This is going to be the last time.
I burned close to 9 cord last year but 4 of it was heavily mixed with poplar. The rest was seasoned but wet ash. Do you think with better wood I'll burn significantly less or only a bit less?
Thanks for the maple tip, I'll get some. I know my guy cut a few maples out there. I just haven't been taking it. I'll get some tomorrow.

Apples to apples, wood to wood, you will always burn less if it is seasoned. It takes btus to boil off the water and carry it out of the chimney. You will be able to choke the fire down lower and burn hotter with well seasoned fuel!!
yea, that's what I thought. Just trying to figure how much less I'll burn you know. This load of ash I got was dry in the middle but covered with mud. It was cheap but it really sucked. Wicked dirty in the house. I'm hoping to drop down to 5 cord. We'll see I guess.
LOL PROPAIN....thats funny stuff. I got two, two hundred gallon tanks, the last time I bought it cost me around $315 and some change to fill one tank. And that was over a year ago. And one tank would last around a month to a month and a half depends on the temp. I just bought a load of wood for $600 that will last me for almost two heating seasons! Good god all the tree huggers are now buying up all the fire wood to fire up there fire places to cut their heating costs..lol
