Its a high of 0 today and I just heard that the price of propane just went up to 3.39 per gallon.
Darn it feels good to be a woodcutter!

I'm not convinced the media has much to do with propane being at all time record lows. But maybe they can scare some into filling their tanks before they need to be filled. Up here they won't fill the tank unless it's low and then they will ration you to 200 gallons and if you ask for more from another supplier they won't take on a new customer at this time... For owned tanks that is, a leased tank can only be filled by its lessor of course. We ditched pro-pain heating some years ago when the stuff hit $4.00 per gallon. One gas bill was enough to buy a wood burning stove. I pulled the gas log heater next day, sold it on CL and ordered a wood stove.
The media is partly to thank (or blame) for this nonsense, with the "propane shortage" reports of late. It's a tinpot excuse to gouge customers through an already byzantine pricing scheme.
Let it go up for all we care. The only thing we use propane for anymore is the kitchen stove. That's not much use. I'll be out cutting wood, take a break and watch the gas trucks go by on the road. Somebody's gonna get a big fat propane bill but it won't be us.
Ohio's Governor has restricted propane distribution until further notice. If you aren't at dire levels then you aren't getting any and you're not getting complete fill if you do need it. They are saying it's caused from a wet fall so farmers had to use driers for their corn and now the deep, prolonged freeze has reduced availability. A friend just told me prices were over $3/gal. I don't have propane.

Michigan also has been hit hard with the governor stepping up to allow the trucks on the roads more but the prices I hear are really soaring. I heard one report of $5 per gallon. Sheeze....
Like gasoline company's they found out what they could get away with after Katrina hit. Same with propane.
More abundant than diesel? Even if we didn't have this rare shortage of propane I'd think that diesel would be more abundant especially since fricking fracking the hell out of North Dakota. But I'm no expert. It would run cleaner for the locos though. The weird thing is my Dad was just telling me about an article he read about how companies are looking into converting locomotives from diesel to propane "because its cheaper and more abundant".
Wood to cut down on our oil burning.... I don't get it?Just saw this:
"Woman dies in Dakotas with no propane to heat home"

Very sad.
I am also thankful we have wood to cut down on our oil burning.
