I installed a Quadrafire 2700 insert this spring and I am trying to tie up the loose ends. Where should I mount a thermometer ? I heard one on the face is no good. If anyone has a good idea I am new to this and want to make sure I burn it right. Pictures would be great.
Thanks
Bud

I use a cheap infrared thermometer gun.
You really don't need it, in my opinion, since you can look in through the glass and see what's happening.
It's fun too and can be used elsewhere in the house.

I have a Jotul C550 and place mine inside the top of the insert where the hot air blows out from the 2 fans. You need to remember where the approximate temp locations are on the mag thermometer. After a little while it becomes real easy to know what your temp is at a glance. The other option is an infrared gun like velvetfoot said.
