Think Im finally gonna buy a splitter

I think Im finally gonna buy a splitter. Been really close to doing it for a year now but havent done it. I love splitting with my fiskars and use a wedge a little but not much. This latest oak I am dealing with bounces the wedge out on the main trunk rounds. I borrowed my neighbors horizontal splitter but took half an hour to start and then stalled on the first stroke. I dont want to break his and have to fix it so Im just gona go pick one up. I know I will use it a lot and will be glad once I bought it but hard to fork over the cash that I worked so hard for.

Yes it is.........Take car of it and the money is still there just in a different from. Never sold a splitter before but never lost a dime on a dozen or so saws.

What is your budget and what is the best option for your budget?

I had been looking for a while just didnt have the intent of buying right away. The one I had borrowed was a 22 ton and it split everything I threw at it. So I had been looking at the Huskee 22 ton at TSC. They have the best prices on what I can find so went with that one. Got the vertical so will have to scrounge up a milk carton to be like backwoods(although it will take me a few years to catch up on the wood supply).

Menards had a 22 ton (horiz/vert) with a 6.5 HP with throttle control (my MTD doesn't have this )

Has nice reflectors, good cradles, nice mid mounted control. I really liked it. I wish I could sell mine for $900 and buy one of them. For $699, it looked like a good deal...

The Huskee is a proven machine. But this looked like it to, was built well.

I looked at Menards online but they were advertised as $999
was that the one in Massillon?

Being I dont know anything about it and TSC is a lot closer for service I went with them

The Huskee is a Monster of a splitter. My MTD is only 21 Ton and I love it!!

I have the Speeco 22 ton. Love it.
I wouldn't have so much CSS wood with out it.
I procrastinated too, but now, I know it was a good investment

I don't like that the pump is 12" + higher than the tank. Tank should be above the pump.

I have heard of issues with towing the Huskee.....the Tank is part of the axle....too much towing, espeacilly over rough terrian may cause a crack and leakage. Mine stays close to home, and rarely goes further than 2 blocks down the road.....so far, it has split everything I've thrown at it......good value for the dollar IMO

For $1k its hard to beat that little Tractor Supply splitter. I don't have one myself but a buddy does and I've used it helping him. They have a two-stage pump and will hammer through anything I could give it. If I was in the market for one, this would be it.

That two stage pump is nice, I definitely used it on some of the knottier stuff I had

A lot better than swining the Maul isn't it....especially at a piece like that
