You folks that are running low on pellets & go to TS, HD, Lowes, well you get the picture, go straight to the manager & tell him about your shortage & how it happens every year. They are the ones to go to. Having spent 25+ years in sales & marketing, I can tell you this will go a long ways towards next years ordering . If they think they won't get hung too bad with stock, they will up their orders.

My local TSC has at least 30 skids of pellets out back........

Double wrapped of course. I'm thinking maybe I should make an offer on a few pallets (the ones on the bottom). The are Sets so stacked on pallets, stretch film wrapped then shrink wrapped with a plastic film overcover....

I keep my pellets in an unheated hay barn and granted they aren't in the weather but they are susceptible to humidy changes and I've never had any issue with carrying them over a year...

My big issue with TSC is the wannabe hi-lo drivers and impaling bags on a skid and then looking the other way... I always catch 'em and get a few extra bags for their stupidity.

I counted 30 pallets double stacked 15 when I was there earlier on.

Why wouldn't he just say "order early next year"?
Having extra inventory carry over is likely a greater cost than losing a sale on a bag of pellets. That is why they have just enough and likely want to run out.

You can be sure a beancounter somewhere has done the math. :)

Myself, I prebuy at TSC every year, always Sets and I know the manager pretty well so I won't wind up with this years will be last years Sets next fall. Don't need that many anyway. 3 tons maximum. I'll be running corn and pellets.

What works even better is buying your entire season's worth in the spring when they're plentiful.

My local lumberyard stocks pellets year round.

Will be doing just that..buy early and no need to worry.

Looks like some folks didn't read my post correctly ! Box stores are not all allotted the same amount, if enough people mention the store running out too soon, I guarantee they will look at their ordering more closely. Maybe it's a little more clearer to some folks now. There are those that for one reason or another are not as fortunate to have the ability to purchase a whole heating season's worth. Clearer ?

I bought for the year, but I'm well aware that not everyone has the storage space or cash on hand to do so. What I've recently learned, that I didn't expect, was that people also buy pellets before a storm the same way they rush out to get milk, eggs, and bread. Let's hope we can go a week or so without another foot or two of snow in one night. That might help the stores get some stock back out there.

My first year with my stove and I'm sure that next year I will just order 4 tons delivered. I'm not gonna mess around next year. Buying 15-20 bags because I only bought 1 ton. Lesson learned. I learn quick and easy.
