Timber Champ Kinetic Wood Splitter

I buy my wood cut and split, but much of it is still quite a bit larger than I'd like, I've been splitting about 1/3 to half by hand. I get some hardwood pieces that are as big a 8"x12" in cross section and roughly 10" rounds, and I have a few pine trees I've removed up to 18" in diameter. I was looking for a wood splitter that'd quickly split these relatively smaller pieces, so a small kinetic unit seemed like the right fit.

It arrived just yesterday and I didn't have time to use it much, but seemed adequate for the job in the few pieces I tried. Weather permitting I hope to put about 2 face cords through it and plan to report back on how it does. I've read that they'd had issues with pinion teeth breaking off, but it seems like these failure have happened pretty quickly and that the company was quick to replace the units, so I'm hoping to give it a good workout this year before the warranty runs out.

I've never heard of that maker. What is the price point on such a thing and how do they compare to the DR RapidFire, Split Second log splitter and Super Split log splitter?

Call me a snob but Super Split was the only thing I considered. USA built with USA parts. The only other option on my desk was a Timber Wolf. I have never once given a second thought about buying it.

I read plenty of the stories and the DR was almost the same $$$$ so why on earth would I think about them and the advertising dollars they spend. The only thing I want from China is some good local food and drinks a couple of times a month.

The Timber Champ is about $450, so just a small step up from your standard cheapish electric splitter, and cheaper than the smallest DR kinetic. It's in a whole different category, and serves a different purpose, from full-size splitters like the Super Split. I don't own one, but was tempted until I found a good deal on a used DR electric hydraulic.

Make sure to check and re-check all your fasteners, nuts, bolts, screws from time to time. The vibrations from those things are well known to shake themselves and loosen things up over time. Make it a regimen.

Super Split is the original, the real deal. Loved using that at a job I had long ago.

Split Second is a well made product also made in the USA. I'd have no hesitation with either Super Split or Split Second.
