Because of some problems with my body the splitting is going very slow this year. Normally I'd have the splitting and stacking all done. So, I'll just do it little by little. In the first picture you can even see I made a little bit of kindling wood. In the second picture the wood on the left is the old oak I picked up in December. Same for the last picture. You can also see some of our older wood piles in the background.

And today it reached 68 degrees! Sure felt great after all the 30's and 40's as of late. Also, we only had a light mist this morning but are expecting rain later tonight.

Looks like you had a great day to do it, nice job Sav. Who lives in the small houses in the background?;)

Houses? Of course it is woodchucks and chipmunks. Maybe a mouse or two.

Can't be zap. No Costco's in our area.

Dennis - if you would like any help I am usually available if you give me a heads up on weekends and could take a run out to the Stackmasters lair to give a hand. I have everything done that I am planning to CSS this year for the most part so you won't be cutting into my work/play time.

Bob, I really appreciate the offer and if I can't get the job done, I'll be sure to let you know. Seems I did not do too bad today so maybe things will go better. I'm also still working on getting my wife in better shape. Doctor apt on Thursday and we expect surgery a short time after the appointment. We'll keep in touch.

Just know I am serious. If I can make it I am always ready to help. It would be payback for all the great, great help this forum has given me and it never hurts to pad the Karma bank account and make new friends!!

Bob, PM sent.

Yep, I like to mix in a little small stuff through the stack and bring it in with the bigger splits for kicking off a load or filling in.
I'm not out to set any speed records, either. I just do a bit here and there, and before long I've got a big ol' stack built. :)

Nice work Dennis!

Backwoods, sounds like you and yours are having some tough times. Wishing you the best and hope you can get your wood split and stacked before the hot weather. I am 60+, have some back problems and have to take it slow myself. If I work pretty hard(which isn't hard) a half day, I better take it easy the next, ha!. By the way, my wife is from muskegon and used to visit up there for many years. Liked the state alot, only time I seen it snow in september was on one of those trips. Good luck!!!

I threw the maul around for an hour this evening and split the small trailer full. I was feeling good about it, till I just saw this and the pict of how much more your accomplished. I have to go pull the truck around back so I can split another hour under the headlights just to keep pace with you. :)
Good work Dennis! I just hope I can get after it like you in a few more years.

Good job, Dennis. And good luck at the doctor this Thursday.

By the way, is that a milk crate with a foam pad on it behind that pile? Don't want to open up that debate again. LOL.

Between the splitter and the quad it looks like you've got the right tools for the job.

Yes, we've had a few trials this year but things are getting better all the time. Well, most of the time at least. Sounds like we are maybe about 10 years apart in age. Muskegon is straight west of us. If you really want to see the beauty of MI, along Lake MI and the Upper Peninsula is where it is the best.
