Todays Black Locust haul !

Thanks to the war on trees going on here in Connecticut, I was able to score some of my favorite firewood today. It turns out I have been driving by this tree for quite some time now on my drive to work. Well the town finally dropped it and was kind enough to leave it beside the road for me to pick up to day.
The trees trunk was somewhere around 28". I decide to buck the rounds to double length 36" + so I could stand them on end in my truck to assist with a nice big load. I wanted to load up quick as the pull off was a little narrow beside the road.
It turns out I was able to load 18 double length rounds in my Toyota Tacoma TRD pickup this way. Yes she was squatting a little according to the neighbor.

This should make for some great firewood in a year or two.

This is one of the other advantages of getting three years ahead on your firewood - you can be more selective on what and where you scrounge.

Unfortunately no, I am still learning all the tricks of the trade.

So for the stand-up double length method it is one of the many good tips I have learn on this site.

I"m looking into some type of bumpstops for my truck for the rare occasion that I"ll overload it. I think Timbren makes something for that, this way it doesn"t sag as much. I don't think it increases your capacity, but it seems to ride better while loaded. They are really strong thick rubber things that get installed between the bottom of the bed and top of the frame- something like that.

The Toyota TRD does have some Bilstein Heavy Duty shocks and HD leaf springs I believe.

It did manage the 18 double lengths with room to spear, I could have fit 3 or four more 8 " rounds but decided not to push it.

Love the way this stuff burns, but hate moving, and splitting it! Had a "sample" load from a local tree guy last winter (4 seasons of drying 16-20% moisture), and it has an insane amount of heat output! I got about 1/2 a cord last year from the town here, c/s/s'd it last winter, and like a kid at christmas it's killing me to stare at it drying in my yard!

Got ya' beat - 3 trips with a borrowed 6ft trailer, about a mile hooked to my 2000 Astro AWD (385,000 Miles), with the crappy fiberglass leafs, and original shocks!

Good idea stacking it up. Love the Locust. 3 years makes it great burning wood. A lot of pop.
My kids used to call it Rice Krispie wood.

I've got those (Timbren helper springs) on my Taco, and man, what a difference. Had to get a shackle lift kit to get the 1" space between the springs and the axle, but I guarantee this will be one of the first mods I do to my next truck. Now back to the OP.
