Trophy Points

I think I should have figured out by now more about points, what are and where they come from other than getting some unknown amount for time as a member. Searches have turned up plenty of humor (free cord of wood for X number of points) around the question but no clear answers. I’m fine with the funny ones, ones but a real explanation also would be nice. How else can I figure when I might get that free cord.

I think the ladies look at you different once you tell them you have over 800 trophy points. I'm not sure if its awe or indigestion though.
