Troubleshooting my P61A install

Posted in my original thread but decided to start a new one just for my issue, some troubleshooting to do, an eventual smokey haze in the room made the smoke detector go off, she was burning nicely with a lively flame, but turned the stove off. Quick inspection all is fine inside and outside, pipe at top measured 130, no worries there. Thinking OAK sucking exhaust back in maybe and OAK is not perfectly sealed? also noticed the door was sticky to open and some fibres from the seal stuck on the box, normal? Outside there is only 38 inches or so of separation from the exhaust and OAK intake, I'm thinking I'll have to go higher, but how much? Should I seal every single joint inside with that orange stuff?
 
Is the smokey haze due to the stove's paint curing and the oils burning off? This is normal during the first burn and should be done until there is no more burn off and should be burning for at least 1.5 hrs and on a high setting(75-85). The O.A.K should be at least 4ft. below the termination point. Depending in the pipe used, you may be required to seal a joints on the pipe.

I second this. The installers told me to run my P43 on high (90) for four hours to cure the paint. They also warned me that the smoke detectors would go off. Sure enough, they did.

I HIGHLY doubt it. My vent termination and OAK intake are 2' apart with the vent terminating 20 inches away from the wall. If you were sucking exhaust back in, I would expect the flame to look less than ideal. For the record, I will be installing the 5' section of vent I have sometime this summer, mainly for draft purposes during a power outage.

It's normal as far as I know. I have the same thing going on and it has not affected performance at all. I sealed all of my exhaust joints with high temp sealant.

Was this your first time burning the stove? If so, you were curing the paint. I burned mine outside before moving it into the house to avoid what you're describing.

Finally got rid of all that smelly stuff, thanks.

But now a new issue that keeps repeating itself, 5 BLINKS, daily once or twice. No unburnt pellets, reset it and restart every time. It is a brand new clean unit.

So why this annoying little issue and how to fix it?
 
5 blinks indicate your igniter is not working according to the manual. The P61 must be in auto mode for the igniter to work. I assume it gets the room up to temp then the stove shuts down and then tries to relight but the igniter is not working. Have you cleaned your stove recently and taken the bottom cover off with the wingnuts and cleaned it out?

Brand new, so no I did not remove that cover yet.
 
I would call the dealer that installed it. They should replace it under warranty. Maybe in shipping it took a hit. However that said you mention that you can turn the stove off manually and back to your settings and it relights correct?

Yes I can, it was flashing when I got up at 5 and been running ok since once reset. Because it has done it 3 times already I suspect it would come back, but what is the cause?
 
I have no idea as an igniter should work or it doesn't. It sounds like when you turn it off and back on then it resets everything and then the igniter works. I would contact the dealer. You can always leave it in maintenance mode for the time being by flipping it to manual when on room temp mode. It will then never go out and be quicker on when the stove calls for heat again via the thermostat.
 
Looks like my issue has decided to go away, everytime I scrape the burn bot I bang it with the tool a few times. I am loving this quick real quick;)

Since your stove is new and clean as you say I wonder if the igniter area has enough ash built up already to benefit from the "banging it with the tool" method to fix a problem?


Maybe possibly there is a loose (or shorted/grounded?) wire in the igniter area that the slight banging on the burnpot helped it temporarily regain contact (or get "unshorted")?

If I had your problem I'd be checking them wires. My beautiful Harman XXV is a high quality unit that unfortunately was assembled by subpar workers along the line so some bad wires are certainly not out of the question, it's worth checking out anyway.. Either way, I'd let the dealer know what's been going on so it's documented in case there's a question concerning warranty down the road

I'm doing a cleaning this morning, starting the weekly ritual, I'll remove the little service door and have look. I do plan letting the dealer know, as soon as he's back from his vacation.
