I was looking at my stove today and noticed a cover plate at the underside my stove behind the ash lip. It's attached by 2 screws. I took it off and it looks like it will get you access to the air control level but wondering if it help get more air into the firebox when removed. The manual talks about boost air and room air coming in from the bottom. There is a larger hole toward the back on the bottom but this looks like where you would hook up the outside air adapter.

Has anyone ever seen this before? Should it be removed or intact?

This is the leg model of the true north tn20. I attached a pic but it's pretty bad.

Thanks!

I doubt it makes much difference. I’d leave it. Are you having burn issues?

No burn issues.

I've been having 2 fires a day in this shoulder season so my coals have to last longer. Started doing some research about raking coals but keeping the boost air clear from ash build up. I looked at my stove and saw this cover plate.

Didn't know if I was missing out on something... lol. I had it off for the fire I had this morning and I was able to shut the air all the way down and kept good secondaries for a long time. Usually in shoukder season I need to keep it open 10-25% because I have less wood in it.

So it may be better but it may just be in my head.

Thanks!

If the stove is working well then I wouldn't tinker with it. If the boost air gets covered with ash, it's not the end of the world when the wood is nice and dry and the draft is good.
