Trying to move a pellet stove solo

Im gearing up for my pellet stove purchase. I plan on picking up a Harman P43 (212 lbs) from my dealer and installing it myself.

I need to move it up three steps into my living room. Do you think i can pull this off myself with just an appliance dolly? Anyone have any experience doing this themselves or with a friend?

As long as you can strap it to your dolly, you should be able to do it. I got both my P43 & P61A into position working alone & I'm OLD.

I have a hand truck and I ratchet strap the stove to the HT and wheel it out to the garage for my full cleanings. I have a set of ramps though and bypass the steps.....works great, if you have a hand truck. I think my stove is in the 300 lb. range and I move it myself but I'm a bigger dude.

I'm a big older dude, and it took two of us to get my P43 out of the bed of my Dodge Ram, and up four steps into the house. Once we were in the house, we set it on a moving blanket, and slid it across our hardwood floor. Then we lifted it onto the hearth pad.
That was the hardest part of the job, install was a piece of cake.
If you've got a good hd hand truck, you'll probably be ok, but another person to help would definitely make it easier, and safer!

The tech that did my harman was not bulky strong he had a hand truck with the big tire wheels and a strap. I helped him push while he glided it up my stairs.if you can get a extra hand wouldn't hurt. Don't want your new bad boy crashing down in case you loose your grip for what ever reason . Good luck and congrats on the Harman

Yes you can do it, you will need ramps to get it out of a pickup truck or a trailer with a ramp on it like I have.. I moved my coal stove in years ago with a dolly, also up three steps. The appliance dolly will have either skids as stair climbers or be a model with a powered stair climber built in. But you can do a couple of planks just as well and create a ramp. Just roll it on up the ramp, nothing to it.

When I get my new P61a ( tossed between it and the P52i insert), not sure but I may have them do the whole thing. Delivery and install, getting older now and the body knows it ! I'm definitely not going up my 28 ft. chimney on a ladder. If I did the install it would be straight out through the back of my fireplace. Obviously, that negates me installing the insert if it were that we buy.

I moved my with the help of my eleven year old son had the perfect set up tailgate was higher then the porch just slide of and stood up. hardest part was though the door up on step once got it in I put it on furniture movers the sliders with plastic on one side and the foam on the slide around like that until I had the hole in the wall and ready to put into place.

As others have mentioned, it can be done. I also got my P43 off the skid, out of the truck and into the house with no problems. And I only have use of 1 arm Dolly, small movin blanket to prevent scratches, strap, all good

Take the door off to save a few pounds and the chance of damaging the glass. I've moved larger bulkier stoves.

Ask the neighbor to come over for 10 minutes, why strain, struggle or take a chance.

A walk in the park. My scrawny worn out old self has moved one 650 pound stove out of here, one 450 pounder in and back out and its replacement in and a pellet stove and another 450 pound wood stove around the house and into the basement. Off of the trailer. Alone.

A little planning, care and a good hand truck can get a lot done. Just always watch one step ahead, take it slow and be careful.

Do the stoves come in a box on a wooden platform like some appliances do? If so, wouldn't it be easier to strap it on a dolly before being unboxed?

Pallet. If the pallet isn't wider than the doorway.

Mine came on a pallet. The tech removed from truck took off door then took off pallet then put on dolly.

I moved our P43 using an appliance dolly. I left the P43 in it's box and attached to the pallet (which isn't much bigger than the stove). Up the 2 steps through the front door (just a standard 36" wide). I brought it home on my work truck (16' box truck) which has a slide out ramp. Just wheeled the dolly with the P43 strapped on right down.

I am 170 lbs.. forty something and I moved a 285 stove into my house with a dolly and strap like nothing. Because I had to move a 350 lb stove out of the house I knew it would be a breeze. Me and a store helper loaded it into the minivan and I weaseled it out by myself. If you can get it secured on a pallet.. and you have a dolly and can climb any stairs with ramps.. it should not be a problem.
